Russell Patterson

Original watercolor 8.5" x 11" illustration by Russell Patterson, depicting a stylized nude female figure with angel wings, rendered in his iconic Art Deco manner. The elongated, graceful form exemplifies the celebrated “Patterson Girl,” whose poised glamour and modern sophistication defined American illustration of the 1920s and 1930s. 

Signed and inscribed at lower right: “Louise — You are an angel — Ruth — Russell Patterson.” In fine condition, toning and edge wear consistent with age.

Russell Patterson (December 26, 1893 – March 17, 1977) was an American cartoonist, illustrator and scenic designer. Patterson's art deco magazine illustrations helped develop and promote the idea of the 1920s and 1930s fashion style known as the flapper.
