Albert Coady Wedemeyer signed twice on the War date stamped cover dated November 2, 1944 (1896–1989) was a prominent United States Army general and key strategic planner during World War II, best known for drafting the "Germany first" strategy and serving as Commander of U.S. forces in China (1944–1946). He was a critical figure in planning the Normandy invasion and supporting Chinese Nationalist forces
Next in command stature is Thomas C. Kinkaid, who signed a 3¢ U.S. Navy First Day Cover postmarked Annapolis, Maryland, October 27, 1945. A four-star admiral, Kinkaid commanded the U.S. Seventh Fleet under General MacArthur and played a central operational role in the Southwest Pacific, including the decisive Battle of Leyte Gulf.
Also included is Jacob L. Devers, boldly signed on an Army commemorative First Day Cover postmarked Washington, D.C., September 28, 1945. Devers commanded the Sixth Army Group in Europe and was among the senior American field commanders in the European Theater.
Completing the grouping is Richard K. Sutherland, signed on a “The United States Honors the Philippines” First Day Cover postmarked Washington, D.C., September 27, 1944. As General Douglas MacArthur’s Chief of Staff in the Southwest Pacific, Sutherland exercised considerable administrative and strategic influence, particularly during the liberation of the Philippines.
