William Shockley, 5" x 7" black-and-white portrait signed at lower margin with the addition of a hand-drawn schematic diagram of the transistor. Scarce signed photo of the Nobel Prize-winning co-inventor of the transistor, enhanced by his technical sketch. Light scattered creasing, though the signature and drawing remain unaffected.

William Shockley (February 13, 1910 – August 12, 1989) was an American physicist, electrical engineer, and inventor. He was the manager of a research group at Bell Labs that included John Bardeen and Walter Brattain. The three scientists were jointly awarded the 1956 Nobel Prize in Physics "for their researches on semiconductors and their discovery of the transistor effect".
