Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997), whose bold comic-strip canvases made him one of the defining figures of the American Pop Art movement, is represented here by two signed items. The first (IMG_197.jpg) is a black-and-white photograph showing Lichtenstein peering through an aperture in one of his signature sculptural works, signed in bold black marker in the upper right. The second (IMG_198.jpg) is a small exhibition card reproducing his iconic comic-panel image featuring a blonde figure with the thought bubble "M-Maybe he became ill and couldn't leave the studio!" — signed by Lichtenstein in blue ink on the white border below the image.
Together the two pieces offer complementary views of Lichtenstein: the photograph places him physically within his own artistic world, while the exhibition card captures the dry wit and melodrama of his most celebrated imagery.
Two pieces: (1) B&W photograph, black marker signature upper right, approximately 3.5 x 5 inches (IMG_197.jpg); (2) exhibition card with color comic reproduction, blue ink signature below image, approximately 3.5 x 5 inches (IMG_198.jpg). Both in very good condition with minor handling wear. Estimate: $1,200-$1,800.
This item will be accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from One of a Kind Collectibles.
