Clarence S. Darrow’s An Eye for an Eye, published by Fox, Duffield & Company in September 1905. This copy is boldly inscribed and signed by Darrow on the front flyleaf: “To Katherina Hooper, with the regards of her friend, Clarence Darrow, June 27, 1920.” The book, a work of fiction addressing themes of justice and capital punishment, stands as the only novel written by the famed defense attorney, best known for his roles in the Leopold and Loeb and Scopes "Monkey" trials.

Bound in original tan cloth with red lettering, this volume shows moderate general wear including rubbing to the spine and some staining to the boards. The inscription is clear and written in black ink, with some scattered foxing to the inscribed page.

Clarence S. Darrow (April 18, 1857 – March 13, 1938) was an American lawyer who became famous in the 19th century for high-profile representations of trade union causes, and in the 20th century for several criminal matters, including the Leopold and Loeb murder trial, the Scopes "monkey" trial, and the Ossian Sweet defense. Some legal analysts and lawyers consider Darrow to be the greatest lawyer of the 20th century.
