Autograph document signed by Washington Irving, 1p, measuring approximately 4.5" x 7, dated April 18, 1856. A brief financial instruction in Irving’s hand, addressed to his relative Pierre M. Irving at 262 Fourth Avenue, authorizing payment:

“Pay to Mr. William H. Ward or order Seven Hundred Dollars for a pair of horses purchased of him this day.

Yours, truly,

Washington Irving.”

A charming handwritten note demonstrating Irving’s personal and practical affairs near the end of his life. Light overall toning with a circular stain near the upper right and expected mailing folds; otherwise very good condition. An excellent example of Irving’s autograph with strong signature and direct historical context.
