Clipped signature of John C. Frémont, boldly penned as “J. C. Frémont, Major Gen[eral] Commdg.” in dark ink on a slip of paper.  This clipped signature reflects his rank during the Civil War when he briefly held command in the Western Department of the Union Army. 

Light age toning and faint creasing; neatly mounted to a slightly larger backing for display. Measuring approximately 1.75" x 4.25"

Major-General John C. Frémont (January 21, 1813 – July 13, 1890) was a United States Army officer, explorer, and politician. He was a United States senator from California and was the first Republican nominee for president of the U.S. in 1856 and founder of the California Republican Party when he was nominated. He lost the election to Democrat James Buchanan when the vote was split by the Know Nothings.
