George Sand Autograph Note Signed, Urgently Requesting Money Before Departing for Paris — April 24, 1869
George Sand (1804-1876), the French novelist and one of the most prolific and celebrated writers of the 19th century, writes this urgent personal note in her bold blue ink. The ANS, dated "24 avril 69" (1869) and addressed to "Mon cher Camus," reads in full: "Mon cher Camus, je vous prie de m'apporter mes douze cents francs, dont j'ai absolument besoin avant de partir pour Paris. tout a vous / George Sand." In English: "My dear Camus, I beg you to bring me my twelve hundred francs, of which I have absolute need before leaving for Paris. Ever yours, George Sand."
The directness is quintessential Sand: no preamble, no apology, simply the need stated and the request made. Urgent financial notes in her hand, signed with her celebrated pen name in full, are among the most characterful Sand documents available to collectors.
