Fine group of four notable literary autographs spanning the 19th and 20th centuries.
Includes a Thornton Wilder signature, “Thornton Wilder / New Haven / March 1931,” penned neatly in black ink on a cream card—signed the same year he won the Pulitzer Prize for The Bridge of San Luis Rey.
Also present is Oliver Wendell Holmes (1809–1894) signature and inscription, “Yours Truly / Oliver Wendell Holmes / Boston Feb. 20th 1875,” in brown ink, a handsome example from the noted poet, physician, and member of the Fireside Poets.
Additionally, William T. Adams, the beloved author of children’s literature who wrote under the pen name “Oliver Optic,” boldly signs “William T. Adams / ‘Oliver Optic’ / Boston April 26, 1872.”
Completing the group is Thomas Bailey Aldrich (1836–1907), poet, novelist, and editor of The Atlantic Monthly, who signs “Thomas Bailey Aldrich / Elmwood, 1873.”
All examples well preserved with light toning or mounting remnants on verso; ink strong and signatures clear. Overall very good to fine.
