William McKinley Jr. JR. ALS on letterhead of James McKinley & Co., San Francisco and dated May 21, 1881. "Dear Allen, Your paper of 13th is exceptionally good & I have enjoyed it. Am having a delightful time here. Wish you could share in our pleasures. Why don't you write me all the news, political & otherwise. With sincere regard, Your friend, Wm. McKinley, Jr." He adds a postscript: "Where is Clark? If I don't hear from him soon, shall open up a correspondence with old man Brooks." At lower left, McKinley penned the inside address: "Allen Carnes, Esq., Canton,." Small marginal tear not affecting text.
