Nice Early ALS, 2 pp 8 x 5 on letterhead of United States Civil Service Commission, dated Oct.. No year, but it had to be between 1889 and 1895. "My dear Dr. Ames, I am extremely obliged to you for your very courteous letter, and the interest it shows. But I am not a candidate for Senator from Dakota. I know far too little of the Dakota political leaders to warrant my being one. However I am just as much obliged to you as if I were in the field, and am, with warm well wishes, Faithfully yours Theodore Roosevelt." Dark ink, excellent condition.
