Millard Fillmore Signed book “Diplomacy of the United States” signed inside front cover “M. Fillmore Buffalo N. York”. Front board is nearly detached, but book is otherwise in good condition. Unusual and rare book, 1st edition of one of the first books on American Diplomacy and forein relations. The various chapters treat relations with specific countries, such as France, Great Britain, Sweden, Russia, and Spain, and provide a quite detailed and informed analysis. Another chapter is on the Louisiana Purchase, and an appendix lists all American treaties to date, while another gives the salaries of American envoys and ambassadors from 1801 to 1819. Rather scarce on the market, with only one copy having sold at auction since 1983. A significant early study of American diplomacy. 14. HOWES L582. SABIN 42796. LARNED 1649.
