A letter signed and then with ALS by Jose de San Martin . In fine condition.

Here is a translation:

Most Excellent Sir, Mr. José Ignacio Barceló, in compliance with the Supreme decree (rv. l ?) presents the attached document which shows that I have been appointed to serve the rank of Alferes [i.e., second lieutenant] and, if this is not sufficient, Your Excellency may order that Mr. Isac Tompson [probably Isaac Thompson], the occasional commander of that corps, inform you whether effectively I remained in the service of the Motherland in that position on the days that I was under his orders. In consequence, I beg Your Excellency to decide according to your superior pleasure. José Ignacio Barceló.

Headquarters of Santiago, July 9, 1811. The document that is presented, dated on the day before the eve of the loss of Chile, does not justify the job that it implies to have served; and if it aspires to another one of equivalent class, it must pass to the school of the Military Academy as it was decided by [....] the Supreme Government. San Martín."

José de San Martín (25 February 1778 – 17 August 1850), known simply as José de San Martín or "the Liberator of Argentina, Chile and Peru", was an Argentine general and the primary leader of the southern and central parts of South America's successful struggle for independence from the Spanish Empire who served as the Protector of Peru.
