Autographed during impeachment proceedings for Chinese consulate: President and Vice President. Partly printed 14" x 20" document signed as President. Oblong folio. Washington, D.C. April 25, 1868. Countersigned by William Seward, Secretary of State. large white embossed seal of the United States affixed to the lower left of the document. President Johnson appoints C.F. Preston to be Interpreter of the Chinese Language at the Consulate of the United States at Canton. Somewhat split in the folds but strengthened on verso with acid free preservation tape,also portrait is affixed to upper right of document.There are some toning issues in document as well. The Impeachment proceedings were held from March 13, 1868 to May 26, 1868. Out of 54 members of the Senate 35 voted for coviction. Johnson was acquitted by one vote. Anything signed by President Johnson during this period is very scarce and desirable.
