Rare Andrew Jackson $10,000 signed and endorsed check made out to him by the Treasury of the United States to be drawn on the bank of New Orleans. This check dated November, 9, 1816 is when Jackson was; just starting to become part of the first Seminole war.The check was endorsed over and signed to Colonel George Gibson, who on April 29, 1816, was appointed by President Madison Quartermaster General to serve in the Southern Division under General Andrew Jackson. He was forty-one years old at that time. These funds where most likely used to help with the tensions developing with the Seminoles and for the land and debt related to the previous battle a year earlier in the battle of New Orleans, where Jackson received His nick name Old Hickory. Check is signed on back by both Jackson and Gibson. There is a small whole in center and was cancelled with the small cuts, that do go through Jackson signature, but does not detract much from this unique check.
