LINCOLN, Abraham. Autograph note signed as President to an unidentified recipient. [Washington, D.C.J, dated January 7, 1865. Nine lines plus signature and date written in brown ink on the front and back of a notecard measuring 2 by 3 1/4 inches. Framed with portrait. An unpublished Lincoln autograph note signed, in which the President intervenes on behalf of a private: "Augustus Jesse's wife complains that her husband, as a private in 7 Ret C.R.C. is deprived of some of his rights. Will the commander of his regiment please look to this? A. Lincoln. Jan. 7, 1865." This note may have resulted from a personal visit to Lincoln by Jesse's wife, asking him to intercede on his behalf. The ink on the notecard is smudged, otherwise fine condition. The front of the card is in frame so a B&W copy of the front is attached to the back of frame, handsomely framed with a portrait.
