Scarce partly-printed vellum DS as president, signed “Z. Taylor,” one page, 9.75 x 7.5, August 10, 1847. President Taylor appoints Andrew F. Monroe , U.S. Naval Midshipman in the Navy of the United States." Boldly signed at the conclusion by President Taylor and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy William B. Preston. In fine condition. Any Taylor presidential document is quite uncommon, as he served only 16 months before he died suddenly on July 9, 1850; this example remains in remarkable condition and boasts an ideally bold, crisp signature, framed 14 1/2 x 17 1/2.
