Remarkable autograph letter signed by Founding Father Robert Morris, dated December 13, 1797, and addressed to John Nicholson, his close associate and co-speculator in land ventures. In this handwritten letter, Morris discusses legal and financial matters with urgency, referencing court dates, copied letters to S.P. Key, trustee documents, and the state of debt-related proceedings. His tone is laced with concern and weariness, including the poignant line: “We shall not be quite so much tormented, as of late we have been.”

Penned just months before Morris’s eventual imprisonment for debt, this letter captures the personal and professional turmoil faced by the man once hailed as the “Financier of the Revolution.” His failing land schemes with Nicholson led to one of the most dramatic downfalls of any Founding Father.

Boldly signed “Robt Morris” at conclusion. Handsomely framed, measuring approximately 7.5" x 9" (viewable area), with overall frame dimensions of 10.5" x 12".

From 1781 to 1784, he served as the Superintendent of Finance of the United States, becoming known as the "Financier of the Revolution." Along with Alexander Hamilton and Albert Gallatin, he is widely regarded as one of the founders of the financial system of the United States.
