Paul Bourget Signed Photograph. Vintage sepia-toned photographic portrait by the noted Paris photographer E. Pirou, signed in the lower margin, “Paul Bourget.” The striking profile portrait depicts the French novelist and critic facing to the right, dressed in formal attire with a bow tie, characteristic of late nineteenth-century studio portraiture. Studio imprint “E. Pirou” appears at lower left, with the address “5, Bd St-Germain” printed at lower right. Photograph measures approximately 6.5" x 8.5" and is mounted to a larger studio mount measuring approximately 9.75" x 12.75".

Paul Bourget (1852–1935) was an influential French novelist, essayist, and literary critic associated with the psychological novel of the late nineteenth century. Initially known for his critical studies of contemporary writers, he gained wide recognition for novels such as Le Disciple (1889), which explored moral responsibility and the influence of intellectual ideas on society. Bourget later became a member of the Académie Française in 1894 and remained a prominent figure in French literary and cultural life for decades.
