Original S.S. President Roosevelt menu, SIGNED ('Amelia Earhart,' 'W.L. Stultz,' 'Lou Gordon,'), July 1, 1928, 8vo (227 x 155 mm), 4pp including covers, evenly toned, one corner chipped, a few stray spots. *With 1937 letter from a sailor aboard the U.S.S. Colorado discussing the search for Earhart and Noonan.
Amelia Earhart was given an opportunity in 1928 to fly a Transatlantic flight on a project coordinated partly by her publicist and future husband George P.Putnam. Earhart, due to her lack of experience flying on instruments, she would essentially be a passenger with Wilmer Stultz as pilot, Louis Gordon as co-pilot/mechanic although she kept the flight log. The Fokker F.VIIb/3m took off on June 17, 1928 from Trepassey Harbor, Newfoundland and landed 20 hours, 40 minutes later near Burry Port, South Wales. The present menu is evidence that despite her limited role, she was celebrated beyond that of the Stultz and Gordon. The menu even includes 'Tournedos a la Miss Earhart.' The menu is also signed by the rest of the honored guests as well as the ship's commander.
