Partly printed DS as president, signed “John Adams,” one page on vellum, 12 x 18, August 19, 1798. A scalloped-top ship’s papers were issued at New York for the vessel Brig Edward, commanded by Robert Montomery and nine men. Countersigned by Timothy Pickering as secretary of state. With the full seal at lower left. Intersecting folds and light wrinkling, otherwise fine condition. Adams’s signature is clear and quite large.
