Document by Navy Secretary Gideon Welles on Navy Department form letterhead. Dated September 14, 1866 for a dicharge form the Marines. Reads, "Sir in reply to your letter of the 12th inst you are informed that the Commadant of the Marine Corps was directed on the 5th inst. to discharge Charles A Wagner from the service.. I am, respectfully, Your obedient servant, Gideon Welles, Secretary of the Navy. Acting Master Fred J. Gover U.S. Navy, Williamsburg, N.Y."
