American Admiral; naval officer who served under Farragut in the Civil War; later became a hero when he destroyed the Spanish squadron in Manila Bay during Spanish-American War. TLS, 1p, 7"x9½", Washington, DC, November 18, 1904. On Admiral of the Navy letterhead. Interesting letter on what his quote on work would be, his reply is in part " my ideas on Work," I give you the following: Work is the outlet of a noble mind, and the terror of an ignoble."
