Irish explorer who led a number of expeditions to the Antarctic, attempting the first quest to the South Pole in 1907-09, most famous for his expedition which resulted in the destruction of his ship the Endurance and an 800 mile voyage in open boats to seek help. Boldly penned cut signature as "E.H. Shackleton, 3/4" x 3 1/4" with later engraving of Shackleton.
