This archive of 10 letters is in reference to a New York Land deal between William B. Astor and the famous William "Boss Tweed known for the scandals in New York and the Tweed ring. The letters show the arrangements and the legal dealings between the two in reference to some lots in New York City.
There are 3 letters from William B Aster handwritten to Mr. William "Boss" Tweed in reference to the land dealings and getting together to get them accomplished. In one letter he says he will be leaving the city for the summer and what about the purchase of the lots in the boulevard, or has he changes his mind. All of the letters date from 1871 and pertain to the land deal. There are 3 letters from Tweed to Astor, two are Handwritten and signed from Tweed and one is a secretarial letter. The archive also has 3 letters from George F. Demarest about the arrangements about the land deal between Astor and Tweed. A letter is also from a Merritt Trimble in Reference to the lots. Many are addressed to Mr. John Brown who was acting as an agent for Mr. Astor.
Fascinating collection and insight in how two of the most powerful New Yorkers did transactions together.
