A 8"x 5" sheet of stationary imprinted 182 Fifth ave near 23rd street in New York, dated March 13th, 1882 to a Stephen Mafsett Signed "S.S Cox" and he drew an original image of a sunset. then signs 13th East 12th regards of "Sunset" to Sam Ward and his friend Stephen Mafsett.
Samuel S. Cox [1824-1889] was an American Congressman and diplomat. He represented both his native Ohio and New York in the United States House of Representatives, and also served as United States Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire. He was known as an eloquent speaker. He acquired his nickname "Sunset" after a particularly florid description of a sunset was published in an article in the "Ohio Statesman".
