TLS signed “Wm. H. Taft,” one page, 8 x 10.5, Supreme Court letterhead, April 28, 1928. Letter to a Mr. Maxwell of the Theater Magazine, in reply to a request for an article to be written by Taft. He reply's that he is "So much absorbed in his judicial duties,that I can not do what is asked". After his presidency, Taft achieved his dream of being appointed chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1921, becoming the only person to have served both as a chief justice and president.
