Auti te pape (Women at the River) Made in France 1893-94 Paul Gauguin, French, 1848 - 1903 Color woodcut printed in black ink over stencil printed in yellow and orange inks Edition over 25-30 Sheet: 7 7/8 x 8 1/2 inches, this woodblock has been cut down form the original size of 8 1/8 x 14 in, so it missing part of the right side, but very rare to have anything from the master artist Gauguin, especially with the use of color and related to his prints and paintings of the French Polynesia people. Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin 7 June 1848 – 8 May 1903) was a leading French Post-Impressionist artist who was not well appreciated until after his death. Gauguin was later recognized for his experimental use of colors and synthetist style that was distinguishably different from Impressionism. His work was influential to the French avant-garde and many modern artists, such as Pablo Picasso, and Henri Matisse.
