Edward Rutledge (November 23, 1749 – January 23, 1800) was an American politician, and youngest signatory of the United States Declaration of Independence. He later served as the 39th Governor of South Carolina.
Interesting Letter refers a friend of his in the and also talks about his ill wife. “Kept so tormented Constant illness of my poor wife that I had ardently given up all my ?, Pardon to my shame & my sorrow” Ed. Rutledge March 21st , 1792. Sadly his wife Henrietta Middleton, the sister of Arthur Middleton who would also sign the Declaration of Independence did die in.
