Partly –printed DS, one page, 11 x 16.75, March 26, 1788. Governor Hancock appoints Josiah Dean “to be one of the Justices to kept the Peace in our Country of Worcester for the term of seven years.” Boldly signed under the paper seal by Hancock and countersigned by John Avery. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, one lightly passing through the final stroke of signature, complete separation along bottom horizontal fold, detaching Avery’s signature from rest of document, a couple repairs and reinforcements to folds on reverse, and scattered light toning and soiling. The large paper seal is worn, but intact. Examples of Hancock’s signature remain one of the most recognizable important in US history.
