38th President Of the United States. ALS dated April 3, 1980 on his personal letterhead to a contributor to the Ford Museum. "Your letter of March 27th with the generous contribution in honor of your father to the President Ford Museum & Library project has been received. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for this most thoughtful assistance. Your Dad, Bob, would be so proud of what the Museum Library will be and I will see that he is properly recognized as a participant. You and I had the same love and admiration for our fathers. Both were the finest in every way and superb examples for each of us. Thanks again and my very best. Jerry Ford." This is particularly interesting in that Ford's birth parents divorced when he was two. President Ford was born Leslie Lynch King, Jr., but was subsequently adopted by his mother's second husband and renamed Gerald Rudolff Ford, Jr. This letter makes it clear that his relationship with his adoptive father was exemplary.
