GARIBALDI, Giuseppe (1807-1882).
Italian patriot. Liberator of Italy. LS, 1p. 8vo, Army of the Vosges, Lyon, Oct. 10, 1870. To an unnamed Commander. Garibaldi at this time held a command in the French Army during the Franco¬Prussian War for a brief period, 1870-71. He signs as Colonel commanding. The letter is very slightly soiled especially at the horizontal fold. He recommends an officer who wishes to enter his Chief's corps. If a place could be found for him, Garibaldi would be very much obliged. His circular handstamp, as Commander of Lyon, crosses the "G" of his initial but in no way eradicates it. Very scarce of this period. With small carte-de-visite photograph. 2 items
This is a rare ALS letter the period where Garibaldi, went to France and assumed command of the Army of the Vosges, an army of volunteers, during the French Third Republic.
