Richard Benjamin "Rick" Ferrell was an American professional Ferrell was regarded as one of the best catchers in baseball during the 1930s and early 1940s. He was selected, to play for the American League in the inaugural Major League Baseball All-Star Game held on July 6, 1933. His 1,806 games played as a catcher set an American League longevity record which stood for more than 40 years. An eight-time All-Star, Ferrell was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984 by the Veterans Committee.
