Sherman ALS dated February 4, 1891 to Lawrence Barrett an American stage actor.1-3/4pp. 8vo in good conditions some slight toning to one side, with . By the great Civil War general and theater lover. The letter shows another side of the general not widely known, his passion for theater. In full it reads "Your letter just received. You are as bad as I am about Sundays. too have an engagement (dinner) Sunday Feb 12. Let us agree to meet at the Club Say 11 or 111 PM - Saturday 7th or Monday 9th after the Play. The object is to make you feel at home at the Club. What say you? will come to see Guido Ferranti some evening next week - but permit me to buy Seats in the orchestra to hear & see the Play. The boxes are planned so that the occupants are seen by the audience, whilst the quarter of the Stage is hidden from them. I know that you will construe me aright when I say that I now need diversion more than scenes of stormy passion as in Virginias & Francisca di Rimine - am told that your new play Guido Ferranti is equally melo-dramatic. Sincerely your Friend W. T. SHERMAN
