Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz United States Navy Stationary. Interesting letter to a Dr. Downs, in reference to being on “Expendable ships in ww2 and you survived and came home safely”. Because of the German U-Boats and surface raiders sank 2,963 Allied ships, So there where many ships being made with the expectation that they might be expendable.
