A copy of letter that does have a rip and states that he sold the balance of his cable to Tiffany studios. This is an original piece of his transatlantic cable, that was sold by Tiffany as a souvenir. Cyrus West Field (October 20, 1819 – July 12, 1892) was an American businessman and financier who, along with other entrepreneurs, created the Atlantic Telegraph Company and laid the first telegraph cable across the Atlantic Ocean in 1858.
