James Garfield Inaguration Ball

Ornate original booklet from the Inaugural Ball of President James A. Garfield, held on March 4, 1881. The cover features vibrant lithographic portraits of Garfield and Vice President Chester A. Arthur, framed by American flags, a bald eagle, and vignettes of the U.S. Capitol and White House, all accented with gold highlights. Bound with the original purple string tassel, the booklet opens to reveal beautifully illustrated interior pages listing the Order of Dancing, Executive Committee members, Hall and Promenade Reception Committee, etc. Musical selections by composers such as Offenbach, Strauss, and Waldteufel are noted alongside traditional dances including quadrilles, polkas, and waltzes.
