John Tyler signed presidential appointment document, dated November 25, 1841, appointing Andrew S. Pond as Marshal of the Northern District of New York. Signed boldly by Tyler as President at the bottom right. The document bears an embossed paper seal and is framed alongside an engraved portrait of Tyler. The document exhibits two distinct areas of staining, and creasing throughout. Document measures 8.5" x 14", framed to 14.25" x 25".
John Tyler (March 29, 1790 – January 18, 1862) was an American politician who served as the tenth president of the United States from 1841 to 1845, after briefly holding office as the tenth vice president in 1841. He was elected vice president on the 1840 Whig ticket with President William Henry Harrison, succeeding to the presidency following Harrison's death 31 days after assuming office.
