William H. Taft signed letter, dated March 8, 1915, addressed to Father John Cavanaugh, President of the University of Notre Dame. Writing from New Haven, Connecticut, Taft fondly recalls a past visit to Notre Dame and expresses his regret at being unable to accept an invitation to deliver the university's commencement address that year. He explains that his June schedule is already filled with addresses at Bryn Mawr, the Connecticut Literary Institute, Wellesley, Swarthmore, and Yale. Signed in full, Wm H Taft, at the conclusion in bold black ink.
The letter is handsomely displayed alongside a photograph of Taft standing with Father Cavanaugh. The letter itself measures 7" x 9.25" and the overall display is framed to 14" x 17".
