Typed letter signed by Warren G. Harding, 1 page, measuring 7" x 9", on official White House letterhead, dated July 25, 1921. Addressed to Hon. John H. Bartlett, this letter formally designates Bartlett as President of the Civil Service Commission. Harding writes in part:
"There is a vacancy in the Presidency of the Civil Service Commission, to which you were recently appointed. By virtue of the authority vested in me, I hereby designate you to serve as President of the Commission... I am sure you will serve the Board well in the capacity of its presiding officer."
Boldly signed in ink by Harding at the close. The letter exhibits toning, and scattered wear near the top with a hole.
