Autograph letter signed “C. F. Adams,” one page, 7.75" x 10", dated February 22, 1850, written from Washington to T. A. Cheney of Cherry Creek, New York. In this letter, Adams responds thoughtfully regarding a legislative claim, noting that success depends more on the committee’s recommendation than on speeches from others: “The true thing is to get the vote. You may count upon mine, if the committee will recommend it.” Boldly penned in Adams’s distinctive hand and signed at the conclusion.

A fine example of mid-19th-century political correspondence from the prominent diplomat and son of President John Quincy Adams. In near fine condition, with light toning and a single horizontal fold.

Charles Francis Adams Sr. (August 18, 1807 – November 21, 1886) was an American historical editor, writer, politician, and diplomat.
