John J. Pershing typed letter signed, dated November 10, 1931, on his personal “JOHN J. PERSHING / WASHINGTON” letterhead. One page, measuring 7.25" x 10.25", framed and matted to an overall size of 13" x 19". Addressed to Mrs. Harry E. Damon of Short Hills, New Jersey, Pershing warmly thanks her for her kind remarks regarding his recently published memoir:

“Please accept my thanks for your kind letter of September tenth, and for your cordial expressions regarding my book. I am pleased to learn that you and your son found the work of interest, and appreciate your courtesy in writing.” Boldly signed “John J. Pershing” in fountain pen at the conclusion.

Nicely presented with an engraved brass plaque identifying Pershing and his distinguished military career. In fine condition, with light horizontal mailing folds and mild toning, attractively framed for display.

John J. Pershing (September 13, 1860 – July 15, 1948), nicknamed "Black Jack", was a senior American United States Army officer. With a storied career, from the last of the Sioux uprisings to San Juan Hill and Pancho Villa, Pershing’s life changed when his wife and three of his four children perished in a Presidio of San Francisco fire. The only General in American history to be promoted within his lifetime to “General of the Armies,” Pershing had sought to continue World War I and occupy Germany, to permanently destroy its militarism.

With One of a Kind Collectibles LOA.
