John J. Pershing autograph signature on a small card measuring approximately 2.5 x 3.5 inches, boldly signed in blue ink, “John J. Pershing.” The signature is clean and well-centered on the card.

Accompanied by the original War Department envelope from the Office of the General of the Armies, Washington, D.C., marked “Official Business,” addressed to Mrs. William U. Parsons of New York, New York, and postmarked Washington, D.C., February 5, 1943. The envelope bears a wartime postal marking promoting the purchase of War Bonds and Stamps. Light handling and age toning consistent with period mailing; part of the envelope has been torn off.

John J. Pershing (September 13, 1860 – July 15, 1948), nicknamed "Black Jack", was a senior American United States Army officer. With a storied career, from the last of the Sioux uprisings to San Juan Hill and Pancho Villa, Pershing’s life changed when his wife and three of his four children perished in a Presidio of San Francisco fire. The only General in American history to be promoted within his lifetime to “General of the Armies,” Pershing had sought to continue World War I and occupy Germany, to permanently destroy its militarism.

With One of a Kind Collectibles LOA.
