James Monroe signed land grant, dated May 8, 1820, during his first term as the fifth President of the United States. This partially printed document conveys public land located in the Jeffersonville, Indiana land office district to Levi Poston of Clark County, Kentucky. It is signed by President Monroe at the lower right and by Josiah Meigs as Commissioner of the General Land Office. The original paper seal remains affixed at the lower left.
The document shows expected age toning and mild staining, with a small punched hole near the center-left, likely from early filing or storage. Several horizontal and vertical creases are present from prior folding, though the text remains clear and Monroe’s signature is well preserved.
It measures 8" x 12" and is matted alongside a portrait of Monroe in a gold-toned frame measuring 18.5" x 26".
