This is a fascinating Handwritten and signed letter by James Buchanan dated Wheatland, Near Lancaster 17 July 1851. The letter is to a Thomas J. McCamant. In the letter he states in part how his niece will be his companion to Wyoming and that he is "gratified to learn the favorable opinion of Mr. Hughes entertains for me personally. On my part this cordially reciprocated. He well deserves the high estimation in which he is held. I regret that he is not my friend politically; but his preference for another does not diminish my regard. I shall visit Pottsville as a private citizen, without the intention of making political capital i shall be happy to receive his personal civilities, as well as your own. With Many thoughts of your kindness, I remain very Respectively your friend James Buchanan"
