Boldly signed and inscribed by Ezra Pound on the front free endpaper: “To his brother with approval / Ezra Pound” in blue ink. An especially striking and personal inscription, far more evocative than his customary signatures, written in Pound’s large, sweeping hand.
Personae is Pound’s defining early collection, originally published in 1926, gathering the poems that established his reputation as a central figure of Modernism. New Directions founder James Laughlin kept Pound’s work in circulation during his years of confinement and afterward, ensuring his influence on mid-20th century poetry.
Ezra Pound (30 October 1885 – 1 November 1972) was an American poet and critic, a major figure in the early modernist poetry movement, and a collaborator in Fascist Italy and the Salò Republic during World War II. His works include Ripostes (1912), Hugh Selwyn Mauberley (1920), and The Cantos (c. 1915–1962).
