Black and white studio portrait of Ansel Adams, smiling, bearded, in a tweed jacket and patterned tie with pocket square, signed in black ink across the jacket "Ansel Adams" with "Carmel 8/18/83" beneath. Adams's photographs of Yosemite and the American West, and the Zone System he devised, made him the most celebrated landscape photographer of the twentieth century. He lived in Carmel, California, from 1962 until his death in April 1984, so this was signed in the last year of his life. Condition: light surface wear and a few small marks.
