Great 1776 piece from Samuel Abbot a prominent Connecticut business man and soldier remained lieutenant colonel of the 20th regiment of the Connecticut militia at least until December 1776 and was subsequently promoted to colonel. Signed on back by Jed Huntington for the committee of safety in 1776.
Document reads in part:
“This is payment due from 1775 the Colony of Connecticut to Samuel Abbott
July 10 to 5 days for procuring guns for the army by the order of his honor Governor
To Horse Hire ……………………………………..
Buying guns for soldiers by Desire of Lieut. Jabez & Elisha Leffingwell
To Applying and numbering of guns.
Excepted January 9th, 1776
