ALS dated May 12, from 20 Brimfield Ma. where Howe request that a Mr Bird dine with her and Edward L. Pierce. This letter is probably written around 1891 when Howe became part of cause "American friends for Russian Freedom". Mr. Bird (Francis William Bird) and Pierce where part of her circle and advocates for this cause.
Julia Ward Howe (May 27, 1819 – October 17, 1910) was an American poet and author, best known for writing "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." She was also an advocate for abolitionism and was a social activist, particularly for women's suffrage.
