This is incredible piece of history. This a hat that was actually worn by Johnson and given to a good friend ... personally by Johnson.
Unlike other hats that came from Johnson this one is is actual hat size which was 7 3/8 and not just one given that is a different size than his own. Johnson would almost almost wear this type of hat when out and was known for wearing the Stetson Open Road style.
The hat has a satin liner which has an outline of the state of Texas and is inscribed "Johnson City LBJ Ranch", black leather sweatband is gold-stamped: "Made by Stetson / Especially for / Lyndon B. Johnson", paper identification label reads: "CDR / Lyndon B Johnson / Gilbelly / Open Road 2 1/2" with the 7 3/8 size marked off. Original box with lid and leather strap. According to provenance that accompanies the piece, Johnson gave the hat to Bill Burrows, a loyal member of his White House staff. Minor wear to box.
